Story of Yama Devta and Yami (Yamuna)
Suryaputra gods Yama and Yami were both siblings. On the occasion of Yamuna's many times, the god Yama came to Yamuna's house to dine on this day. From that day, Bhai Dooj started celebrating.
Sister Yamuna fed brother Yama Deity well and applied tilak to Yama Deity and worshiped. Sister Yamuna wished the god Yama a happy life.
The god Yama was very pleased with Yamuna and told Yamuna, what boon do you want?
Yamuna said, come to my house every year to have food.
On this day, if any sister worships her brother, she will not have any fear.
The God of Yamas was very happy to hear the words of his sister Yamuna and gave a boon to Yamuna.
From the same day, Bhai Dooj celebrates the festival.
Story of Krishna and Subhadra
Lord Shri Krishna killed Dwarka Narakasura and reached Dwarka on this day.
On this day, Lord Krishna's sister Subhadra applied tilak to her brother and welcomed Lord Krishna by lighting fruit flowers and other types of sweets and lots of diyas.
On the day of Bhai Dooj festival the sister decorates the tilak and thali for her brother to worship.
Be it in the plate or keep the literature according to the Kumkum Gulal, Ashtagandha, Akshada, flowers, sweets and rituals.
First of all, the sister makes rice for her brother by mixing rice and kumkum as the brother can sit.

यम देवता और यामी ( यमुना) की कहानी।
सूर्यपुत्र देवता यम और यामी दोनों भाई बहन थे।यमुना के बहुत बार बुलाने पर यम देवता इस दिन यमुना के घर भोजन करने के लिए आये थे।उसी दिन से भाई दूज त्योहार मनाने लगे।
बहन यमुना ने भाई यम देवता को अच्छे से भोजन कराया और यम देवता को तिलक लगाया और पूजा करी । बहन यमुना ने यम देवता की सुखी जीवन की कामना की।
यम देवता यमुना पर बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और यमुना को कहा कि तुम्हे क्या वरदान चाहिए?
यमुना ने कहा, हर वर्ष मेरे घर पर खाना खाने के लिए आया करो।
कृष्णा और सुभद्रा की कहानी
भगवान श्रीकृष्ण महा राक्षस नरकासुर का वध कर इस दिन द्वारका पहुंचे थे।
इस दिन भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की बहन सुभद्रा ने अपने भाई को तिलक लगाया और पूजा करी फल फूल और भी प्रकार मिठाई और बहुत सारे दीए जलाकर भगवान श्री कृष्ण का स्वागत किया।बहन सुभद्रा ने भगवान श्री कृष्ण की लंबी उम्र की कामना की।
भाई दूज त्यौहार के दिन बहन अपने भाई के लिए तिलक और पूजा करने के लिए थाली सजाती है।
थाली में हो या कुमकुम गुलाल, अष्टगंध, अक्षदा, फूल, मिठाई और रिति रिवाज के नुसार साहित्य रखते है।
सबसे पहले बहन अपने भाई के लिए चावल और कुमकुम मिलाकर भाई बैठ सके उतनी चौक बनाती है।
भाई दूज के शुभ मुहूर्त पर भाई को उस चौक में बैठती है और भाई को मस्तक पर तिलक लगाती है। उसकी पूजा करती है।
